SAUK RAPIDS (WJON News) -- Three men are running to become the next mayor of Sauk Rapids.

Andrew Neussendorfer has been living in Sauk Rapids since 2013. He works for the city of St. Cloud in the IT department and he also owns his own small business.

This is his first time running for public office. He says he decided to run now because it is an open seat. He has a few priorities he'd like to focus on as mayor.

My goals are public safety and infrastructure, we all know how important this is.  And then also fiscal responsibility, and part of that fiscal responsibility I'll be willing to not take pay for the first year.

The Sauk Rapids Mayor's monthly salary is listed at $705.

Neussendorfer says his experience being a longtime employee in a city's IT department has allowed him to see the full aspects of a city.

Back in May, current mayor Kurt Hunstiger announced he was not going to run for re-election after serving eight years in the position.

Early voting is underway right now for the Primary Election on August 13th.

The other two candidates are Nick Sauer and Jason Ellering. The two men with the most votes will move on to the General election in November.

WJON News is featuring all three of the candidates running for Sauk Rapids mayor this week.  The week of July 15th we will feature the six candidates running for St. Cloud mayor.
