The town has grown from around 4,600 people in 2000 to just under 7,000 now. The population growth has led to several new businesses and developments (like a community center and new government building).
After over 50 years of teaching cosmetology students, Regency Beauty Institute is closing all 79 of their campuses: including its location in Waite Park. Regency Beauty says declining numbers of cosmetology students led to their decision.

The St. Cloud Downtown Council is working with local young professionals to keep downtown a fun, edgy and innovative place to be. Pegg Gustafson is the President of the Council, she says there are over 620 businesses and 10,000 employees in downtown St. Cloud.
