Get Ready For Summer Folk Concerts In St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- You will have a few opportunities to listen to some folk music in the St. Cloud area this summer.

Granite City Folk Society is hosting two concerts.

Spokesman Paul Imholte says they usually take the summer off, but this year they decided to book a few shows.

The first is Kristian Bugge and Bill Peterson on Wednesday, June 11th at 7:00 p.m. It is a house concert, so tickets are very limited.

They are hosting Mean Mary on Sunday, July 20th at 7:00 p.m. at Iron Street Distillery.

Even though her name is Mean Mary, she is a wonderfully kind, wonderful musician within the bluegrass vein. She sings, she plays banjo, guitar, and fiddle.

Imholte says Granite City Folk Society is already preparing for its annual free outdoor concert to kick off the next season. That will be on Friday, September 5th, at the First Presbyterian Church, featuring Maygen and the Birdwatcher. The free show will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a few food trucks on site.

There are many ways to go to great music in the St. Cloud area.  We have this niche of folk music that we try to present, and a lot of it is singer-songwriters, some international performers, banjo performers, we'll have a harpist from the cities this coming season, and blues musicians.

Granite City Folk Society has 18 shows a year from September through May, with two shows a month, one at Bo Diddley's and one at First Presbyterian Church each month.
