WAITE PARK -- Some of the best remote control race car drivers in the country competed in Waite Park over the weekend. Thunder Road RC Raceway at Hobbytown hosted the “Midwest Nationals” as part of the first-ever “National Carpet and Turf Series.”

Jason Ruona is the president of race sponsor JConcepts. He says he decided to start the company and the national dirt and carpet circuits after being a professional driver.

"I've been doing RC cars for about 30 years. I was a pro driver for many years, and then as I was kind of getting out of being a pro racer I got into more of the business side of it and wanting to design and develop our own products."

The event was the fourth and final race in the circuit.

Ruona says he hopes to bring it back to Minnesota again next year.
