The team started as a group of high school friends and has grown to add new friends and co-workers over the years. Team Captain June Metzger says that core group of friends is still together but her mom is the one who got things rolling for them almost three decades ago:

"What I remember is my mom was listening to the college radio station because she was like nerdy cool that way, and she was like hey there's this trivia contest coming up do you wanna play, so like  it was me and her and my sister and a couple of our friends and we played as Conjugated Burgs At All Again Nerds and the next year we brought in some of our friends and became House of Insanity."

Metzger says the reason for choosing House of Insanity for their team name has been lost over the years and they keep that name consistent from year to year versus tweaking it like some teams.

Trivia serves as a mini-reunion for House of Insanity members and Metzger says some of the little memories like running out to a grocery store to find an answer inside a Crystal Light drink packet is what keeps them coming back.  She says one of their most memorable moments was the team effort to find an answer to a visual question:

"And then everybody was too shy to call and a third person called this random woman and got her talking and she gave us enough information to get the answer together, it was one of those long questions with like four or five bullet points in the answer."

She continued by saying trivia is a tradition and still fun for them. She says they love to watch the standings from hour to hour to see how they stack up:

"One of my favorite moments from a couple of years ago was when we were first after the first hour because everybody was tied and we just happened to be alphabetically first, the thrill of that really, it's exciting."

Metzger says she has a screenshot of that first-place moment saved in their archives. She says trivia overall is wonderful and the team is glad they are still doing it. KVSC's 46th Annual Trivia contest takes place from February 14th through the 16th. You can hear our full conversation with June Metzger about House of Insanity on Saturday at about 7:10 a.m. after the news and weather. Next week WJON will profile the team Sigma Phi Nothing.
