WAITE PARK - How to utilize a unique park property was brought for discussion during this (Monday) evening's Waite Park Work Session.

The city has acquired a piece of Quarry land which the city would like to turn into a park.

The site is located along 17th Avenue and Parkway Drive in Waite Park, southwest of Menards and the proposed Miller Architects hotel site.

During the discussion, the council brainstormed ideas on what to do with the location, one of them building an amphitheater (or bandshell) much like what is located at Lake George in St. Cloud.

Bob Kost is a community planner with SEH. He said the area provides many amenities such as parking, lots of space and scenery that would make a great location for an amphitheater.

Several members of the council felt this would be a great addition to the city, as long as it would accommodate the cities needs.

They suggested a market study be conducted in the area to determine the best use of the space and see if this type of facility is possible.

No action was taken at tonight, but the council will revisit the idea once the findings of the study have been presented.
