ST. CLOUD - A St. Cloud man has been arrested after a standoff with the SWAT team early this (Tuesday) morning.

The incident happened in the 200 block of 10th Avenue North.

Commander Jeff Oxton says 23-year-old Bryan Walks was arrested at 9:25 a.m. after he allegedly threatened and assaulted a 23-year-old woman with a knife.

Officers responded to the felony assault just after midnight after the victim was able to escape from the home and go to a friend's house to call police.

Negotiators and SWAT teams officers tried to make contact with Walks but he refused to negotiate or surrender. Oxton says Walks was talking with friends saying he was suicidal and had a gun.

Officers used a search warrant at the home and found Walks hiding in the attic just after 9:00 a.m.

He was taken to Stearns County Jail and faces charges of 2nd Degree Felony Assault with a knife.

The 23-year-old victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
