Man Hit by a Vehicle in South St. Cloud Crosswalk [VIDEO]

ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man is hurt after he was hit by a vehicle Wednesday.

The incident happened just before 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of 10th Avenue South and University Drive in St. Cloud. Police say 47-year-old Abdi Elmi was walking in the crosswalk on University Drive at 10th Avenue South, when he was hit be a vehicle heading west on University.

The driver of the vehicle was 59-year-old Mark Helminick, of St. Cloud. Helminick told police he did not see Elmi, and attempted to avoid him but it was too late. Helminick attended to Elmi until first responders arrived.

Elmi was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for substantial injuries.

Helminick was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
