ST. CLOUD -- A Stearns County jury has found a St. Cloud man not guilty in a shooting incident which injured a man in March. Fifty-four-year-old Herbert Campbell was acquitted on 2nd degree attempted murder and 1st degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

According to the criminal complaint, Campbell and the victim were talking at the end of the victim’s Waite Park driveway March 20th, when the victim made several comments about Campbell shooting him.

Records alleged a woman who was also at the scene then began escorting the victim away from Campbell when court records say she heard a “pop” and saw the man fall to the ground while grabbing his chest.

The woman was able to flag down a sheriff’s deputy who was in the area. The officer saw the screaming woman kneeling over a man on the ground and Campbell standing nearby with a gun.

The officer ordered Campbell to the ground and arrested him.

The victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but survived. Campbell claimed self defense in the incident and the jury found he was innocent of the charges.
