ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man has been charged in the shooting incident in Waite Park Monday.  Fifty-four-year-old Herbert Campbell is charged with 2nd degree attempted murder and 1st degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

According to the criminal complaint, Campbell and the victim were talking at the end of the victim's driveway Monday night when the victim made several comments about Campbell shooting him. A woman who was also at the scene then began escorting the victim away from Campbell when court records say she heard a "pop" and saw the man fall to the ground while grabbing his chest.

The woman was able to flag down a sheriff's deputy who was in the area. The officer saw the screaming woman kneeling over a man on the ground and Campbell standing nearby with a gun. The officer ordered Campbell to the ground and arrested him.

The victim, who's name hasn't been released, was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains hospitalized and is expected to survive.

Authorities say they removed a loaded .22 caliber handgun from Campbell at the time of his arrest.

No court hearings for Campbell are currently scheduled.
