ST. CLOUD -- October marks Domestic Violence Awareness month ,and the Women's Center at St. Cloud State University is teaching students about the issue.

Lucille Guinta-Bates is the Interim Coordinator for the Gender Violence Prevention Program. She says one in four women is a victim of domestic violence. The "In Her Shoes" activity provides an understanding what women who are victims of violence go through.

"This is an interactive activity, and it's a way for people to learn first hand what women in a domestic violence situation face."

The activity has participants select a women's story, and walk through 17 stations representing obstacles and choices faced by victims of domestic violence.

Kelly Yang is an intern at the Women's Center. She says the activity will give students a perspective they have never seen before.

"I feel like they will gain a lot of the insight on the thoughts and choices a battered woman goes through."

The event is being held in the Atwood Memorial Center's Glacier Room at St. Cloud State University until 10:00 p.m. tonight. It is open to the community.
