WAITE PARK -- Waite Park Police arrested three people Friday afternoon after officers went to attempt an arrest on an outstanding warrant.

Officers arrived at the Motel 6 at 815 First Street South just before 1:00 p.m. Staff then alerted police to a dispute in the parking lot.

Motel staff had called to have an unregistered vehicle towed from the lot. The owner of that vehicle, 38-year-old David Tyson of St. Cloud, got upset when the tow truck driver tried to take the vehicle away. Police say Tyson tried to drive from the scene and struck the tow truck in the process. Tyson was booked into the Stearns County Jail on a reckless driving charge.

Two other men were arrested at the scene. Nineteen-year-old Nyapal Tongyik Minyoang of St. Cloud was arrested on a felony drug possession charge and obstruction of legal process.  Twenty-one-year-old Christopher Sullivan of St. Cloud was arrested on a felony warrant and obstruction.

As police went to secure the motel room, the found a large amount of mail inside that had been stolen from the Rice and Cold Spring areas. The mail has been turned over to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

If you believe you may have had mail stolen, you can call 1-800-275-8777. The Postal Service will return the recovered mail over the next several weeks.
