St. Joseph City Council Vacancy As Scepaniak Takes Mayoral Oath
ST. JOSEPH (WJON News) -- Adam Scepaniak will be sworn in as Mayor of St. Joseph at the start of Monday's city council meeting.
That will create a vacancy on the council.
Later in the meeting, the remaining council members will have to declare the vacancy and then set the rules for filling it. State Statute requires the city council to fill the opening either through an appointment process or by ordering a special election.
Since there are less than two years left in the vacant term, a special election is not required.

The St. Joseph City Council has historically opted for the appointment through an interview process.
