Spotlight: GREAT Theatre Performing Steel Magnolias
WAITE PARK (WJON News) -- The latest production from GREAT Theatre is on stage now.

Steel Magnolias opened this past weekend to full houses at the Helgeson Learning Lab. Executive Director Lacey Schirmers says that the venue seats about 140 people.
For Steel Magnolias it's in the thrust which means we have seating on three sides and you are nice and close to the story that's being told. Some of the audience Friday night commented they felt like they were right there in the salon with them.
Schirmers says they double-cast the show which has just six roles all for women.
There are only six roles, so when we double-cast it we doubled the opportunity. So now instead of just six people being able to be a part of it, we have 12. The other reason we double-cast it is in case someone is sick.
There are seven more performances of Steel Magnolias with three this coming weekend, and four more the following weekend. Schirmers says some of the upcoming shows are already sold out, others have some single seats available.

GREAT's next production is Mary Poppins April 11th through the 27th at the Paramount Center for the Arts.
