SARTELL -- The Sartell-St. Stephen School District have opened bids for selling a 42 1/2 acre parcel of land in St. Stephen.

The board opened the bidding process during Monday's meeting.

Superintendent Jeff Schwiebert says they've been getting calls about the property since they announced their intent to sell back in April.

"We had a call or two a week asking when the bidding process is open. So we will spend some time trying to make sure people are recognizing that yes the property is officially for sale."

Schwiebert says the district has owned the property for about 20 years and once the sale is final, the money will be used for building and ground improvements.

"It will not go back into the general fund, it will go back into the building and grounds fund. We can use it then for building new buildings or fixing up the buildings we have."

Schwiebert says they will use a closed bid procedure and hope to have the property sold by Thanksgiving.
