STEARNS COUNTY - A Royalton woman was taken to the hospital on Friday after driving off the road and hitting a telephone utility box.

The incident happened just after 5:30 p.m. at 39122 County Road 1.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says 66-year-old Martha Loften was driving a Jeep Cherokee northbound when she crossed over into the oncoming traffic lane. She overcorrected and then drove into the east ditch, hitting a mailbox and telephone utility box.

The vehicle came back onto the road and came to rest blocking both north and southbound traffic lanes.

Loften didn't have any apparent injuries and was taken to St. Cloud Hospital by ambulance for an evaluation. It appears a medical issue contributed as the cause of the crash. No one else was hurt.

Residents in the area have said their phones weren't working since the crash. Century Link was notified of the incident.

St. Stephen Rescue, Sartell Police and Collins Brothers Towing all assisted at the scene.
