Rivard Settling In As New Sartell Superintendent

SARTELL (WJON News) -- The Sartell-St. Stephen School District officially has a new superintendent. Michael Rivard's first day on the job was Monday after serving as the assistant superintendent for St. Cloud Area Schools. Rivard has spent over 20 years in education and says he is impressed with Sartell's commitment to students. He says over 75% of the district's teachers have their Master's Degree which highlights that dedication:

"So teachers who are continuing on, providing just excellence for our students, but also as lifelong learners and doing those things to ensure that their improving instructional strategy for kids, what a celebration for this community that we have teachers and staff that are so committed."

Rivard says all the staff work hard to ensure every student has a great experience and helps set them up for success. He says he is having fun in the new role getting to meet everyone, and speaking with parents and staff. As superintendent Rivard will oversee the district's mission to provide a high-quality education and foster a community environment for all students, staff, and families.He says he wants to continue to evolve the district's community engagement and partnerships:

"I think most would recognize that by having strong community and parent involvement, and family involvement we know that increases student success and I want all community members to feel welcome in our schools, to feel like they're part of the success of all of our kids in Sartell-St. Stephen."

Rivard says the district has a 98% graduation rate which is incredible and he wants to make sure all kids continue to have post high school opportunies whether it is college, the military, or the work force. Both of Rivard's children graduated from Sartell so he feels he already knows the district very well. Tom Lee's tenure as interim superintendent ended on June 30th.
