Whether for love or for spite, the Minnesota Zoo is offering a chance to buy and name a bug this Valentine's season. After the bug is named, it will be fed to a hungry animal at the zoo.

How romantic.

NAME A BUG AFTER YOUR EX

You could, for example, name a mealworm after an ex-lover. The zoo says their animals go through 700,000 mealworms per year, making this a great way to show them just how insignificant they are!

Is your partner a health nut? Name a cricket after them! After all, crickets are chock full of protein, fat and fiber, making them a sensible snack all year long.

Other bug options include earthworms, which the zoo says are 'a popular, low-calorie snack that's packed with protein,' and Dubia roaches, which the zoo breeds itself.

HOW MUCH TO DONATE A BUG AT THE MINNESOTA ZOO

It costs $15 to name a bug in someone's honor. The transaction includes an email with a custom message sent to your recipient on Valentine's Day, along with the money going to support the zoo itself.

This Valentine’s Day, forget the flowers and buy a bug. Tell that special someone just how you feel when you donate $15 to name a bug in their honor. We’ll then feed their bug to an animal at the Minnesota Zoo.

Just think — Wallace the worm, Rachel the roach, or Chris the cricket could soon become part of a balanced diet for Zoo animals like birds, skunks, sugar gliders, opossums, turtles, monkeys, and more.

The deadline for Valentine's Day delivery is 4 p.m. on February 14th. Offensive or hateful messages may be removed by the Minnesota Zoo Foundation, so keep the drama to a minimum.
