Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Fred A. Herkenhoff, age 85, of St. Cloud who passed away Monday. Rev. LeRoy Scheierl will officiate and burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Fred was born on December 17, 1928 in Freeport to Fred and Christina (Finken) Herkenhoff. On June 6, 1951 he married Virginia “Jean” Bartylla at Our Lady of Angels in Sauk Centre. Fred served his country with honor in the United States Army and the Minnesota National Guard for 28 years. He also worked in Crookston as the Area Supervisor for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. Fred worked for various airlines delivering luggage for 15 years and also worked part time at the Williams Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Fred enjoyed going to the cabin, hunting, fishing and picking blueberries with his family although his family enjoyed the blueberries more than the picking. He was very generous with all that he had and worked hard to give his family a good life. Fred loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean; children, Carol (Jeff) Ous of Stillwater, Mick (Sandy) Herkenhoff of Crookston, Bob Herkenhoff of Crookston, Linda (Kelly) Brown of St. Joseph, Tom Herkenhoff of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Meyer, Bridget (Travis) Meidinger, Dominic Herkenhoff, Ashley Brown, Tom (Fiancé Taylor Ramler) Brown, Megan (Tony) Seeman, Jason (Diana Webster) Ous, Joshua Ous, Gage O’Neal, Doug Herkenhoff, Gabi Herkenhoff; and two great grandchildren, Grace and Noah Meyer. He is preceded in death by his parents.
