Bernice was born February 11, 1928, in Richmond to Henry G. and Frances (Braegelmann) Torborg. Bernice was the third of eleven hard working farm children. While working at the local hardware store, Bernice met Ralph Evens, and they were united in marriage on August 29, 1951 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Richmond, MN.

Mom was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and baker. Bernice’s children and grandchildren cherished her homemade bread, rolls, and pies. Her passion for making quilts will be shown for years, knowing that all the children and grandchildren had one made for their wedding day. Above all, Bernice valued her family, faith and time with friends.

Besides being a mother of nine, she loved to volunteer in the community, including 75+ years on the Sts. Peter and Paul Choir, delivering Meals on Wheels, Richmond Park Board and Richmond River Lake Days Committee, to name only a few. Bernice also served as a clerk for the City of Richmond for many years. Some of her favorite pastimes included singing, playing cards, gardening, bus trips with friends, fishing, especially winter spearing, reading and an occasional casino trip.

She was the beloved mother of Chuck (Susie), Pat (Gerri), Mike (Mona), Tom (Jenny), Tim (Stacey), Micky (Scott) Fjellman; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Bernice is also survived by her siblings, Sister Mary Josephine Torborg, Viola Kalthoff, Herbert Torborg, Urban Torborg; in-laws, Dolores Torborg, Virginia Torborg, Kathy Evens, Fran Evens, and Beatrice (Evens) Kutter.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Ralph (1986); parents, Henry G. and Frances Torborg; children, Mary, Therese, Jim; siblings, Alice Lauer, Norbert Torborg, Alfred Torborg, Jerome Torborg, Monica Buerman, Gertrude Torborg: in-laws, Matt and Susan Evens; brothers and sisters in-law, Al Lauer, Mary Helen Torborg, Ralph Buerman, Ben Kalthoff, Emmy Torborg, Joann Torborg, Kathy Torborg, Aurelia Thomes, Edmund Thomes, Leonard Evens, Virginia Evens, Claude Evens, Julius Schmidt, Lorraine Schmidt, Herbert Evens, and Raymond Evens.
