Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Zion Irving Lutheran Church in Rural Paynesville for Algene Anton Otteson, 87 of Paynesville who passed away on, Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Paynesville Hospital. Reverends Galen and Marcia Sylvester will officiate. Burial will take place in Zion Irving Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the Church. Arrangements are with the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Algene was born on August 20, 1932, in Irving Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota to Anton and Irene (Johnson) Otteson. He attended rural schools and was baptized and confirmed at Zion-Irving Lutheran Church, where he has remained a lifelong member. On July 11, 1952, he was united in marriage to Carol Duis at Zion-Irving Lutheran Church. They farmed for many years in Irving Township until retiring in the fall of 1997. During his farming years he also drove milk truck for Grove City Creamery and drove school bus for Paynesville Motor and Transfer. As a faithful and devoted member of his church he served on the church council, parish council, ushered and was the custodian and cemetery caretaker. Farming was his life and his family recalls how meticulous he was with his farm equipment. He continued to take care of the farm up until his death. Algene always enjoyed visiting with family and friends and even with people he didn’t know. He was a loving, kind and gentle person to all.

Algene is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Carol; four children, Connie (George) Blank of Casselton, North Dakota, Blake (Shawna Larsen) Otteson of Volga, South Dakota, Robyn (Loren) Wendroth of Rochester and Todd (Patty) Otteson of Red Wing; 10 grandchildren, Carl Blank, Laurie (Jake) Palen, Rebecca Baugher, Valerie (David) Unterberger, Collin (Katie) Otteson, Laura (Ricky) Hinman, Kaylyn (JT) Rhode, Keaton Wendroth and Amy and Emily Otteson; 11 great grandchildren, Carli and Kendra Blank, Winston and Scarlett Palen, Kuddyer Baugher, Bria and Chase Unterberger, Hans and Gwen Otteson, Olivia Hinman and Avery Rhode; one brother, Jon (Judy) Otteson of Hutchinson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Arnold.

Memorials are preferred to Zion Irving Lutheran Church or Donor’s Choice.

The family would like to extend a Special Thank You to the Staff of the St. Cloud Hospital and Paynesville Hospital for their care and support.
