ST. PAUL - Minnesota Wild captain Mikko Koivu scored a the game-winning goal and the Wild beat the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 Saturday night.

The Penguins opened the scoring in the 1st with a power-play goal, but Minnesota responded before the end of the period. Wild forward Daniel Winnik scored the tying goal.

Both teams clamped down on defense the final two periods.

Koivu's game-winning goal came was a deflection of a great pass from Wild defensemen Mike Reilly.
