ST. CLOUD -- Friday has come to mean "fish fry" for the local volunteers at the Eastside VFW.

The VFW hosts a weekly fish fry all year round. But, since the beginning of the Catholic season of lent, they've become increasingly busy.

They usually start their fry at 6:00 p.m., but to accommodate the bigger crowds during lent they open at 4:00 p.m.

A handful of volunteers prepare everything from breading and frying fish to making cole slaw from scratch. It takes about five to ten volunteers working around the clock to put everything together.

VFW manager, Dave Larson says they've added a few new items to their selection.

Most of their help comes from long time volunteers like Bernie Weber. He began participating in Friday fish fries in 1964 and is still active today.
