Some changes will be coming to the St. Katharine Drexel School and Church of St. Augustine's Annual Fish Fry this year.

Whether you're eating fish on a Friday as part of a religious observation or just love perfectly prepared fish at a great price, Central Minnesota is the place to be during this Lenten season.

At 3:59 p.m. on the first Friday of Lent, the Eastside VFW looks pretty quiet. Once the door opens, a minute later, the people line the door ready for their favorite fish fry.

Pass the tarter sauce, the Clearwater American Legion's 60th Annual fish fry is on deck for Sunday.

With Central Minnesota's large Catholic community and rich traditions, you would guess affordable and delicious fish fries during Lent would be popular. But you would be underestimating the draw of the crunchy deep-fried fish, golden brown fries, tangy cole slaw and all the other sides that go into a basket of fish fry goodness.

Friday has come to mean "fish fry" for the local volunteers at the EastSide VFW.
