ST. CLOUD -- Supporters of extending the Northstar Commuter Rail Line to St. Cloud are getting organized in advance of the 2016 legislative session. About 200 people attended an event last week and signed a petition to bring the rail line here.

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis was on hand for the rally. He says now is the time to get Northstar to St. Cloud.  Kleis says lawmakers need a comprehensive transportation bill which includes adding lanes onto I-94, expanding air service in St. Cloud and extending the rail line.

Kleis says his top priority is adding additional lanes on I-94 to St. Cloud. But, he says the legislature needs to have a multi-modal approach covering mass transit and the state's highway system.

The mayor says if there isn't a transportation bill in the upcoming legislative session, he'd like to see Northstar included in a bonding bill.
