ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- Early voting is underway right now for the August 13th Primary Election. Steven Schiller is one of the six choices St. Cloud residents have to be the next mayor.

He was also a candidate for mayor four years ago when he finished in the top two in the Primary and advanced to the General election. Schiller lost to Mayor Dave Kleis 36 percent to 64 percent in the General Election.

He says he's running again because he wants to help bring St. Cloud back to what it once was.

A thriving metropolis.  The thing is our downtown area, we've seen over the years has really died.  Even though a lot of small businesses have come back to the downtown area, the people haven't

He says, if he's elected, he doesn't plan to be a part-time mayor.

Not where the city is at right now.  From an economic standpoint, it can't be a part-time job, it needs to be a full-time emphasis whether you get paid as a full-time person is irrelevant to me.

Schiller says he wants to help bring people together as a community to come up with new ways to revitalize the city.

Schiller was born and raised in St. Cloud. He graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in local Urban Affairs.

He has a military background as well as experience in starting and running small businesses.

The other five candidates are Carol Lewis, Anne Buckvold, Mike Conway, James Tranita, and Jake Anderson. The top two vote getters in the Primary Election move on the General Election in November. WJON News is featuring each of the candidates throughout the week.
