ST. CLOUD - The unemployment rate for the St. Cloud metro area is the lowest its been in six years.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development says we're at 3.9 percent for the month of October.  That's down from 4.4 percent in September.

Both of those figures were delayed until today (Tuesday), because of the federal government shutdown.

The last time local unemployment was 3.9 percent was in November of 2007 - right before the Great Recession began.

The St. Cloud metro area is doing much better than the statewide average, which is at 4.8 percent.

October unemployment rates for other Minnesota metro areas:
Mankato - 3.3 percent
Rochester - 3.5 percent
Minneapolis-St. Paul 4.1 percent
Duluth - 5.2 percent
