St. Cloud Man Charged After Toddler is Shot With Gun
ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man has been charged after his grandson found a loaded gun and accidentally shot a toddler, wounding him.
Forty-six-year-old Kevin Sund is charged with negligent storage of a firearm and being a felon in possession of a gun.
Records show Sund was sleeping at a home at 220 14th Avenue North in St. Cloud last December where his grandson and two other children were playing. According to the criminal complaint, his five-year-old grandson found a duffel bag with what is described as a sawed-off shotgun inside.
The boy thought the gun was a toy, pointed it at the ground, and pulled the trigger. The gunshot hit the three-year-old leaving as many as 12 BB pellets in his leg.
Sund and his grandson left the scene and the wounded boy was taken to the hospital.
Records show police were unable to contact Sund and issued a warrant for his arrest. He was ultimately brought into custody and made his first court appearance last week.
Sund has a prior 3rd degree assault conviction in Anoka County which prevents him from having a gun.
His next court appearance is scheduled for March 6th.
