Scam Involving FBI Phone Number Reported in Avon

AVON - A phone scam involving an FBI phone number is being reported in the Avon area.

The Avon Police Department says people are receiving phone calls from what appears to be the Minneapolis FBI headquarters.

The scammers have the ability to make their number show 763-569-8000, which matches the Minneapolis branch of the FBI. Scammers are spoofing the number to make it look official.

Police are reminding you to never give out personal information (Including date of birth, drivers license info, social security number, credit card number or bank account information) to the caller and to hang up immediately before contacting law enforcement.
