UPDATE: Man Charged in High Speed Chase
PRINCETON -- A St. Cloud man has been charged with leading authorities on a high-speed chase covering 40 miles.
Princeton police say an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle which was reported in Mille Lacs County Saturday which may have been involved in a burglary attempt. The incident happened around 5:00 a.m. near the intersection of 10th Street and 115th Avenue.
Court records show the officer attempted a traffic stop after noticing the white van fail to make a complete stop. The officer then activated his emergency lights and sirens.
Records show the van accelerated and headed southbound on Highway 169 with the officer in pursuit. The officer noted the van fail to stop at multiple red lights and pass through intersections at speeds of up to 90 miles-per-hour. Multiple law enforcement agencies joined in the pursuit and a Pursuit Interruption Technique was deployed to spin out the rear of the van and get it to stop.
Officers arrested the driver, 39-year-old Joseph Evers on fleeing police, obstructing legal process and reckless driving. He was taken to the Mille Lacs County Jail where he awaits his first court appearance.
There were two passengers in the van. Police say 37-year-old Ahmed Nur was arrested on outstanding warrants. He was taken to the Stearns County Jail.
A second passenger was released without charges.
