April 13, 1927 - January 25, 2016

 

Leonard R. Hermanson, age 88, of Princeton, Minnesota, died peacefully Monday, January 25, 2016 at Sterling Pointe in Princeton.

Leonard R. Hermanson was born on April 13, 1927 in Zimmerman, MN, the son of Albert and Kaja (Thorson) Hermanson. Leonard grew up in Blue Hill Township outside of Princeton, MN. He served as a Private First Class in the United States Army Air Force in Germany. Leonard married Donna Mae Zeroth on October 15, 1949 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Princeton. The couple lived in Coleraine, MN where Leonard worked in the iron mines from 1949-1960. The two then lived in Blaine, St. Francis and Little Bear Lake, North of Grand Rapids, all in MN before moving back to Princeton in 2007. Leonard was proud of his service in the military and was involved in the American Legion, VFW and Disabled Vets. Leonard loved the outdoors and the North Country. He wasn’t happy unless his snowmobile trips went at least 200 miles. He also enjoyed skiing and ski jumped in his earlier years. He loved hunting deer and grouse and fishing as well as gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Donna, children Robert (Terri) Hermanson and Jan Doyle; grandchildren, Gervea (Troy) Minks, Erik (Melissa) Hermanson, Branden Doyle and Bryon Doyle; great grandchildren Olan and Vaughn Minks and Emma, Kady and Tyler Hermanson; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings, Olaf “Ole”, Clara, Alice, Elsie, Eleanor, Adolf “Bud”, Theodore and Elwin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Sterling Pointe Chapel in Princeton. Interment will be in St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery in Princeton.
