Free.  That's a word everyone usually likes.  The question of "what can I get for free" is a very common question.

TIME TO ENJOY ANOTHER FREE PARK DAY COMING SOON

Every year, the Minnesota DNR announces a handful of free state park days.  The next one happens to be next Saturday, April 25th.  Good thing it wasn't this Saturday, the weather looks less than inviting.  But next Saturday the forecast says mid to upper 50s with a chance of rain.  Hopefully the rain holds off for that day.  It can definitely put a damper in your outdoor plans, including a fun day at a state park hiking around.

WHAT ARE THE REASONS FOR THE FREE PARK DAYS FROM THE MNDNR

There are some stipulations and reasons that the DNR has set up regarding Free Park Days.

The entrance fee waiver for fee-free days does not cover amenity or user fees for activities like camping, rentals, or special tours. The goal is to encourage families and friends to spend time together in nature. Research shows many health and wellness benefits to spending time in nature. According to ParkRx, contact with nature improves one’s physical, mental, and spiritual health. Getting outdoors makes exercise more fun and can boost mood and immunity. The American Psychological Association shares that exposure to nature is linked to benefits including improved attention, lower stress, reduced risk of psychiatric disorders and even increases in empathy and cooperation.

THERE ARE A FEW OF THESE FREE PARK DAYS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

There are some other dates throughout the year that the DNR has set up as Free Park Days.  That way, if this one doesn't work out for you for one reason or another, there are other chances to take advantage of the free admission.

  • Saturday, April 25
  • Saturday, June 13
  • Friday, November 27

Make sure that whatever park you decide to explore, you monitor the park alerts and you can also download all of the trails through their maps.
