Barnard was also not shy about controversy, and his opinions often drew negative attention to the station during his years at KQRS. Barnard's wife, Kathryn, also took to X to share the news and to thank everyone for their kindness and support during this time.

Inspired Many To Become Broadcasters

I grew up in the Twin Cities, and Tom was on in our house and in my parents' car. He was one of the figures in broadcasting who shaped my desire to be on the radio. While he may have had his share of controversy over the years, his decades of success were something to admire and strive for in a world of changing media.

I was struck when I saw the news on X yesterday evening, seeing a giant of the Twin Cities broadcasting scene share that news made me think about the personal side of the industry. Tom is a husband, a father, and still broadcasting with his podcast that features his family.

You can learn more about his podcast here.
