Changes to Minnesota's Meat raffles aren't looking too good. According to multiple outlets, the proposed changes, which would allow for larger prizes and for organizations to sell tickets for more money, are being 'held hostage' by another bill. So where's the beef?

MN Charitable Changes Not Looking Good For 2026

Allied Charities of Minnesota took to social media yesterday to explain what's going on with the seemingly no-brainer of a change.

ACTION ALERT

Our Meat Raffle Modernization Act (HF4090 / SF4515) — a simple, bipartisan effort to update outdated limits and strengthen charitable fundraising — is being held hostage at the State Capitol.

Some legislators are tying action on this bill to negotiations over a separate issue: the sweepstakes ban bill.

We support BOTH bills. But charities across Minnesota should not have to wait because of unrelated political negotiations.

The Meat Raffle Modernization Act is ready. It’s common sense. And it directly impacts the ability of local charities, nonprofits, veterans groups, and community organizations to raise money for the causes they serve.

Call your legislators today and tell them: Pass the Meat Raffle Modernization Act now.

What's Holding It Up?

An online sweepstakes ban that in March seemed to have bipartisan support is what seems to be standing in the way of the changes to Minnesota meat raffles. Fox 9 has more information on the online sweepstakes here.

Tick Tock, Not Much Time Left In The Session

With the legislative session staring at a May 18th expiration date, unless the Governor declares a special session, the likelihood of a bill passing both the Minnesota House and Senate doesn't look good.

If the bill isn't passed, nothing changes for meat raffles in Minnesota, but the passage of this bill would mean higher valued prizes as well as the opportunity for the organizations running the raffles to charge more for the tickets.

You and I both know how much it costs to buy meat at a store; the new rules would make it easier to raise funds in light of increased costs for charities, both local and across the state.

Get.

It.

Done.
