COLD SPRING -- A group of Rocori High School students said good-bye to central Minnesota and hello Ecuador earlier this summer.

Roughly 16 students got to visit the Galapagos Islands last month as part of the school's class trip.

Brian Herring is a Spanish Teacher at Rocori. He says they try and do a class trip every other year. He says they typically visit Spanish speaking countries, but wanted to do something different this year to open it up for more kids.

So we decided to mix things up this year to do more of a science based trip with the group of kids and the Galapagos seemed like the perfect fit.

Over the 10 day trip, students got to study and learn about the wildlife, history, science and culture of the area.

Herring says it was an unforgettable experience for the students.

I know the big things they really enjoyed was the wildlife and seeing the changing ecosystems. It really opened up their eyes to another part of the world especially if none of them have left central Minnesota.

Herring says as a Spanish teacher most of their class trips have been to Spain or Costa Rica but says they want to return to the Galapagos Islands again in the future.
