Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Long Prairie for Evelyn Holmquist, 79 of Long Prairie, who passed away at her home on Friday surrounded by her loving family. Rev. Bert Holmquist will officiate and burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Long Prairie. Friends and relatives may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening at Williams Dingmann Stein Chapel in Long Prairie and also one hour prior to services at the church on Friday morning.

Evelyn was born on May 18, 1935 in Little Sauk Township to Rune and Menda (Johnson) Durene. She graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1953 and from Willmar School of Nursing in 1958. Evie was married to Carl R. Holmquist on December 20, 1958 at the Assembly of God Church in Sauk Centre. She worked at St. Michael’s Hospital in Sauk Centre, then at Sarepta Nursing Home in Sauk Centre as Administrator for nearly ten years. Evie enjoyed crocheting, gardening and painting. She was very organized and meticulous, with a compassionate, selfless heart. Evie was a devout Christian who committed her life to serving the Lord. She always cared deeply for her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her loving husband of nearly 56 years, Carl of Long Prairie; daughters, Lucinda Johnson of Port Orange, FL, Teresa (Rob) Gipperich of Louisville, KY, Janell (Scott) Westerman of Sauk Centre and Linda (Rob) Shurtleff of Richfield; siblings, Marilyn (Charles) Lent of Little Falls, Art (Marvis) Durene of Holdingford and Sally (George) Gunion of Big Lake; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Rick.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, William and Brandon Waldvogel, Erik and Jack Pilgrim and Nate Shurtleff.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
