ST. CLOUD -- It's going to take more than the "Luck of the Irish" if you are caught drinking and driving this weekend.

Extra law enforcement will be on DWI patrol starting today (Friday) for St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow says because the holiday falls on a Monday, it may lead to weekend long celebrations.

In the past five years, more that 1400 people have been arrested for a DWI offense on St. Patrick's Day.

Grabow says if you plan to celebrate the holiday -- plan ahead.

A DWI offense can result in loss of a license for up to a year, thousands in costs and possible jail time.
