Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Luxemburg for Bernadette “Bernie” Athman Meemken, age 99, who passed away Monday at Country Manor Health Care Center in Sartell. Rev. Ronald Weyrens will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service Saturday at Mary Hall.

Bernadette “Bernie” Athman Meemken was born Feb. 1, 1918 in Cedar Rapids, IA to Joseph & Bessie (Kellogg) Gutenkauf. She married Richard Athman on Aug. 31, 1941 in St. Paul and he passed away in 1970. They farmed near Luxemburg from 1946-1970. Bernie married Richard Meemken on Oct. 21, 1988 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud and he passed away in 2007. She enjoyed dancing, crossword puzzles, sewing, music, playing cards, traveling, fishing and most of all she treasured her family. Bernie was a gentle soul who was witty, charming and independent. She left a legacy of love!

Survivors include her children, Kathy Goenner of Clear Lake, Judy (Jack) Prom of St. Cloud, Phyllis (Bob) Dennee of Bozeman, MT, Dick (Terese) Athman of Hamilton, MT, Connie Athman (Tom Lockhart) of Sandy, OR and Rob Athman (Cindy Koskela) of Hamilton, MT; step-children, Tim (Bonnie) Meemken of Sauk Rapids, Audrey (Wayne) Bellmont of Waite Park, Karen (Steve) Schroepfer of Waite Park and Dan (Karla) Meemken of North Branch; 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Richard Athman and Richard Meemken; son-in-law, Mal Goenner; sisters, Rachel Ford, Carol Wermus and Helen Lunzer; and brother, Robert Gutenkauf.

Memorials are preferred.

A special thank you to the staff at Country Manor and St. Croix Hospice for all the wonderful care given to Mom.
