Tri-County Solid Waste Begins 20-Year Deal With Alexandria Incinerator
ST. CLOUD -- Garbage from Stearns, Benton and Sherburne County will be heading to an Alexandria incinerator starting Thursday.
The Tri-County Solid Waste Commission has signed a 20-year agreement with Pope-Douglas Solid Waste to accept up to 50-thousand tons of solid waste per year.
Tri-County Solid Waste spokesman Jerry Johnson says they convinced the operators in Alexandria to move their expansion project up a few years to accommodate our garbage.
Johnson says when their agreement with an Elk River incinerator expired in 2009 they had to look at options like re-signing a lease with Elk River, building our own burner or signing a deal with Pope-Douglas Solid Waste. He says this deal made the most sense of the three.
