Sports Physicals Came To St. Cloud High Schools, Removing Cost And Travel Barriers

ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- About 80 students got their sports physicals this summer through a community effort to remove barriers to participation in athletics.

Last week, Aslan Health provided about 60 sports physicals on-site at Tech and Apollo High Schools.  Another 20 or so students received their sports physicals at the Aslan Health Clinic.

Two local organizations made the effort possible.  The St. Cloud Morning Optimist Club provided funding to help cover the cost of the physicals for students, while Bernick Family Foundation provided a $10,000 grant for Aslan Health's Mobile Youth Sports Physical/Health Cart.

Sports physicals are required for many student-athletes and help identify health concerns that could affect a student's ability to safely participate in athletics.  Bringing the Mobile Youth Sports Physical/Health Cart directly to Tech and Apollo allowed students to complete their physicals at school and reduce barriers such as cost and transportation.

For District 742 students who face other financial barriers to participating in athletics and activities, additional help may be available through LEAF 742's Activities Participation Fund.
