ST. CLOUD -- Stearns County has joined a list of about 40 Minnesota counties who will collect an extra $10 on license tab fees for vehicles.

County commissioners approved the "wheelage tax" on a unanimous vote.

The revenue will go to help pay for local road construction projects.

County Engineer Jodi Teich says there are some exempt vehicles, however.  She says motorcycles, scooters, trailers, classic cars and classic motorcycles are exempt from the tax.

The "wheelage tax" is estimated to raise an additional $2.5-million in funds which must go toward road construction.
