St. Cloud Man Arrested After Threats Incident [VIDEO]
ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man faces assault and threats charges after he allegedly tried to hit another man with a hatchet and threatened to kill him.
St. Cloud Police were called to an apartment complex parking lot in the 1500 block of 16th Avenue Southeast at about 7:45 p.m. Monday. A 45-year-old man said he was sitting in his car when another man approached him and threatened to kill him.
The suspect, 51-year-old Daniel Volkers of St. Cloud, also allegedly tried to open the car door and twice tried to hit the victim with a large hatchet. Volkers then left the scene and went inside the apartment building.
Volkers wouldn't respond to police attempts to talk with him so the SWAT team used a search warrant to enter the apartment unit. Volkers was found hiding in a closet and a large hatchet was recovered inside the residence.
Police say it's still unclear why Volkers tried to assault the man. He's jailed in Sherburne County on suspicion of second degree assault and felony threats of violence.
The victim was not hurt.
