St. Cloud Bridge Closed While Officers Talk Man Out of Jumping
ST. CLOUD - Granite City Crossing bridge in downtown St. Cloud was shut down for a couple of hours early Friday morning as police talked to a suicidal man.
The incident started just after 3:00 a.m., when several motorists reported seeing a man on the railing of the bridge.
Officers found a 57-year-old man on the west end of the bridge, standing on the outside ledge of the south railing. He indicated he was planning on jumping. Officers talked with him for about one-and-a-half hours and were eventually able to get close enough that one officer was able to grab him.
He was brought to St. Cloud Hospital.
No one was hurt. The bridge was closed until about 5:00.
The Minnesota State Patrol assisted with the bridge closing, and St. Cloud Fire Department had rescue boats in the water in case he jumped.
