ST. CLOUD -- St. Cloud Police have made an arrest in a shooting incident where a man was shot in the chest early December 28th. Police say their investigation found the victim accidentally shot himself.

Police were dispatched to University Drive and 9th Avenue South shortly after 2:30 a.m. to find a man with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

29-year-old Aaron Moreno was interviewed and could not tell police who shot him or where he was when he was shot. He was taken to the hospital with substantial but non-life threatening injuries.

Police later located witnesses who say Moreno shot himself while riding in a vehicle.

Police used a search warrant to inspect the vehicle and found a 22-caliber rifle believed to be the gun that shot Moreno.

Because Moreno has a criminal history including assault, terroristic threats and burglary he is not allowed to possess a gun.

Police arrested Moreno January First when he was released from the hospital and faces a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
