ST. CLOUD -- For Megan Hedstrom her senior year at St. Cloud State University can be summed up as unforgettable.

The Illinois native has been making headlines this year both on the mound and in the classroom.

"If you want it you have to work hard for it. Nothing's ever given," says Hedstrom.

A few weeks ago, Hedstrom not only pitched a perfect game for the SCSU softball team, but also won the Crystal Piller Award at the Upper Midwest Emmy's in the same weekend (March 31-April 2).

"I was really surprised that I won and all the hard work I put in paid off. Coming into the next day when I pitched that perfect game, I was really focused and didn't even know till after it happened," says Hedstrom.

As a student athlete and sports director for UTVS, Hedstrom credits her success to her dedication, focus and drive.

"That was my mindset coming into this year. It's going to be a lot of work but I knew I needed to be able to do that kind of stuff," says Hedstrom.

As her time at SCSU ends, she hopes to take the lessons she has learned on and off the field and transfer them into a career as a sports journalist.

"Being on the sidelines is something that is so fun to me. To me it's not work, it's pure fun," says Hedstrom.

And as for her advice to young girls wanting to pursue sports in college, Hedstrom says it's worth it.
