ST. CLOUD -- St. Cloud State University continues to see a decline in enrollment numbers.

According to numbers released today (Tuesday) SCSU had over 15,000 students enrolled at the 30th day of classes this year. Which resulted in a 5.1 percent decrease from the previous year.

Richard Green is the Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. He says the decline has affected many universities and colleges across the state and believes it's because more high school students choose to work then attend college.

However, despite the decline in enrollment, Green says they have seen an increase in diversity.

The report shows students of color at St. Cloud State University went up 2.3 percent and international students was up 9 percent from the previous year.

While the decline of enrollment remains a concern for SCSU, Green says they saw an increase in retention.

Retention of admitted students increased 6 percent.
