Sauk Rapids Man Arrested on Felony Theft Charges
SAUK RAPIDS -- Benton County authorities have arrested a Sauk Rapids man on felony theft charges after a burglary at Warnert Racing in east St. Cloud.
Sheriff Troy Heck says sometime in the overnight hours on October 23rd, someone broke into a racing trailer and stole automotive batteries, electronic items and tools. Video surveillance caught images of the suspect who a sheriff's lieutenant recognized.
As part of the investigation, authorities learned 39-year-old Leonard Berg had sold batteries, similar to those taken, to a local recycler. A search warrant was then used at Leonard's home and turned up additional stolen items, including a generator taken from the St. Cloud Salvation Army.
Leonard was arrested for felony theft and is being held on $10,000 bail.
