ST. CLOUD -- A Rosemount man is being held on $3-million bail in the murder of his south St. Cloud mother Thursday.

The Stearns County Attorney's office has charged 40-year-old Chad Pulju with one count of second-degree murder with intent-not premeditated. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 40-years in prison.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to the home in the 2700 block of Atwood Drive just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday on a domestic assault call.

Police arrived to find a woman with knife wounds to her neck, face and arm. Police say Pulju was standing over the woman, 68-year-old Geraldine Bennett, with blood on his shirt. He was not administering first aid. Police forced their way into the house and detained Pulju. They found a folding knife with blood on it underneath his left leg.

Bennett was taken to the hospital for treatment of a knife wound to her carotid artery, but later died.

Pulju claims to have no recollection of the events that led to Bennett's death. He is in court late this afternoon where a judge is considering bail.
