June 6, 1930 - January 14, 2017

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice for Marlen D. Johnson, age 86, of Rice who died Saturday at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center. Rev. Thomas Becker will officiate and burial will be at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery near Little Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church in Rice.

Marlen was born June 6, 1930 in Aplington, Iowa to Leonard & Frannie (Boekhoff) Johnson. He married Marcia Ann Maurer on April 28, 1951 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Rice. They lived in Brooklyn Park prior to moving to Rice in 1998. Marlen was a Welder for Butler Manufacturing Company for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Rice American Legion Post 473. Marlen enjoyed fishing, hunting, welding, mowing the lawn, sweets and spending the winters in Texas. He was a kind, helpful man with a great sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia of 65 years; sister, Marie Jacobs and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John, Harold and Duane.

Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.
