ST. PAUL (AP) - Friday is the last day to apply for a marriage license in Minnesota if you want to get married on Aug. 1, the day same-sex unions become legal in the state.

There's a five-day waiting period for a license in Minnesota. Some counties chose to make the same-sex marriage applications available early so couples will have the license by Aug. 1. Hennepin County started accepting applications June 6 and other counties in the metro area followed suit.

St. Louis County in northeastern Minnesota started offering the applications Friday. Benton County won't offer the license application to same-gender couples until Aug. 1.
